A 3-inch clean-out is a plumbing accessory used in non-pressurized drain, waste, and vent (DWV) piping to allow maintenance access. The fitting provides a removable or sealed plug or cap to enable inspectors or plumbers to open up the line, remove blockages, flush out waste, or perform internal inspections. Variants include adapters (with spigot or threaded ends), tees with clean-out plugs, snap-in assemblies, or flush plugs. Materials are most often PVC, sometimes ABS, chosen for durability, chemical resistance, cost-efficiency. They are not suitable for pressurized or potable water applications unless specifically rated. Connections may be solvent‐cemented, threaded, or snap-in (depending on the clean-out design).
